The office of PLN Tahuna is Indonesia’s first Net Zero Energy (NZE) building where the electricity needs of the building is supplied by the 50 kWp Rooftop Ongrid Solar Power System.
Tahuna is the capital city of Sangihe island in North Sulawesi, near the border of the Phillipines. Not connected to the electric grid of the main island, Tahuna relies on the Diesel Power Plant. With its remote location, challenging sea condition and limited transportation access, there is no guarantee of steady supply of petrol hence causing unrelieable electricity condition with intermittent blackouts every now and then.
To ensure the uninterrupted PLN service in the island, PLN Suluttenggo decided to install Rooftop Solar Power solution in 2012. Designed, installed and commissioned by PT Selaras Daya Utama on-time and on-budget, the PLN Tahuna Rooftop Solar Power System transformed the building into Indonesia’s first Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB). Combining with various energy-saving solutions, including LED lightings throughout the building, there is even surplus energy goes to the island’s grid for the island community.
